Premier Doug Ford announced over $6.8-million for three cities through Building Faster Fund
A handsome financial reward for St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Welland today for exceeding home construction targets.
Premier Doug Ford stopped at St. Catharines city hall, with almost $6.8-million to be split between the three cities, as they worked through the Building Faster Fund.
Niagara Falls receives $2,817,707 for achieving 116% of its target, with 774 new units, Welland gets $1,467, 045 for reaching 114% of its target, with 408 new units, and St. Catharines awarded $2,501, 547 for achieving 85% target, with 782 new units. "I hope that this money will be used to get even more homes built, so I can come back with another bigger cheque for you... I know, Mayor Campion, you're on target, and I know Mayor Siscoe is competitive and wants to beat you."
Housing Minister Rob Flack added they recently passed legislation to further speed up home construction.
The premier also acknowledged something else Mayors Campion, Diodati and Siscoe noted. "We can't do anything and the mayors can't do anything, without their councils. I've walked a mile in their shoes, and know that council is so important. When council, and the mayor, and the province work together, we are unstoppable."
