NRP Investigating Residential Break and Enters

Update: Man arrested while attempting break and enter

Police have arrested a man while an attempted break and enter was taking place in St. Catharines.

Yesterday, we told you police were looking for a man wanted in connection to a number of residential break and enters in Thorold.

Police say they identified a suspect, and were watching the man as he tried to break into a home in the Roehampton Avenue and Bunting Road area.  They moved in and arrested him without incident.

45-year old Kristopher Jon Hodgkins, of no fixed address, remains in custody pending a bail hearing today in St. Catharines.

He's been charged with:

  • Break Enter and Commit (7 Counts)
  • Break Enter and Attempt (3 Counts)
  • Theft Under $5000 (2 Counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000

Police add there are also 7 outstanding warrants for his arrest... 5 counts for breaching probation, and 2 counts for not appearing in court.

A reminder from Niagara regional police to do what you can to make sure your home is locked and secure when you leave.

This comes as they look for a suspect wanted for nine residential break and enters in Thorold, since the end of February.

Police add the home owners were not home, nor have they indicated if anything was taken.

The suspect is a white man, 35 to 40 years old, and was wearing a black "Crooks and Castle" hoody and grey ball cap.

Police also say to make sure valuables are hidden, keep your property trim and clean to avoid hiding spots, communicate with your neighbours concerning suspicious activity, and post signs such as "Beware of Dog", or "Smile, You're on Camera", to act as a deterrent to a thief.
