The Niagara Regional Police Service has suspended its participation in the Crime Stoppers of Niagara program. It comes after a cyber security breach of a third party platform that collects anonymous tips for the crime reporting hotline. The breach may have exposed the personal information of 1.5 million Canadians and the NRPS says some data related to Niagara was included. The service says the safety and security of Niagara residents who have interacted with Crime Stoppers remains a primary concern. The NRPS will now perform a review and risk assessment related to the breach but will still take information about crime and public safety concerns on its anonymous tip line at (289) 248-1058.
