Report finds too many loopholes around rule
Just as Premier Doug Ford called for travellers entering Ontario via busy land borders including Niagara be quarantined in hotels for three days, a federal advisory panel is calling for an end to the practice for air travellers.
The report says its too expensive, its inconsistent and contains too many loopholes.
The experts on the panel, all medical professionals, also note some travellers are choosing to pay the fine of up to $3,000 for skipping out on their mandatory hotel stay and possibly not quarantining at all.
But they say Canada should continue screening international travellers for more transmissible variants of COVID-19.
