Actor privately battled cancer
Paul Reubens, an actor best known for the Pee-wee Herman character, has died at the age of 70.
Earlier today, a statement was posted on his official Facebook page, saying the actor had privately battled cancer for years.
He began his career in comedy in the 1970s, and launched "The Pee-wee Herman Show" as a stage production in 1980.
He hit the big screen in 1985 with "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and again three years later for "Big Top Pee-wee."
From 1986 to 1990, the show "Pee-wee's Playhouse" aired on CBS.
In 1991, his career became tarnished when he was arrested for indecent exposure.
He was also arrested on child pornography charges in 2002, but the charges were dropped two years later when he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor obscenity charge.
He revived "The Pee-wee Herman Show" on Broadway in 2010, and starred in "Pee-wee's Big Holiday" in 2016.
Reubens also starred in a variety of other projects, including "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Matilda" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
