Councillors, and not just with Pelham, say speeding is top complaint received
Don't expect to see speed limits in Pelham change any time soon.
Council recently voted to keep it at 40, 50 or 60kms, on any given road for safety.
Councillor Brian Eckhardt says speeding is the number one issue councillors hear about, so he's glad for 40 zones. "We're building more seniors' buildings, we're encouraging more walking, and cycling. Future generations that are coming will get use to the idea of 40kms an hour in downtown Fonthill."
He also uses the word "collision" when describing a crash between vehicles, or pedestrians, and not "accident", because they are avoidable.
Eckhardt also revealed what happened after some men at a local restaurant complained to him about speeding on a certain road.
"I said next day shift I'll have someone there, but I'm going to warn you, it'll be your friends and neighbours. And the guy that spoke to me was the first person to get a ticket. The next time I saw him he said 'I didn't mean me'."
A report on speeding still leaves council the option of making changes.
