The American Airlines jet collided with the US Army Blackhawk helicopter midair.
UPDATE (8:45 a.m.): Crews say 27 bodies have been recovered.
Officials also don't believe anyone survived the crash, which makes this the deadliest plane crash in the United States in almost 24 years.

WASHINGTON D.C. - A search and rescue operation is underway after an American Airlines plane collided with a US Army Blackhawk helicopter close to Washington D.C.
The US Federal Aviation Administration says the crash happened the midair at around 9:00 p.m. last night, while the Bombardier twin-engine regional jet was trying to land at Reagan National Airport. There were 60 passengers and four crew members on the plane, while the helicopter was carrying three soldiers on a training flight.
The airport has halted all takeoffs and landings until tomorrow.
The search and rescue crews are currently scouring the waters of the Potomac River. During a press conference, Washington Mayor Mural Bowser did not say how many bodies have been recovered, but she did say "we are going to recover our fellow citizens."
