Province reversing course
The Premier tweeting out this afternoon that playgrounds, which closed this morning under the new COVID restrictions, can reopen.
Doug Ford says the enhanced restrictions were meant to stop large gatherings.
He says the regulations will be amended to allow for playground reopenings but gatherings outside will still be enforced.
Meantime, after Niagara Regional Police and other forces announced they would not be conducting random stops of individuals and vehicles to make sure people are only travelling for essential reasons, there's word the Ford government will revisit that order.
Sources tell the Canadian Press, the province will be issuing a "scoping down" clarification to police chiefs and the public about the scope and scale of the order.
The source adding the goal of the enforcement would be on larger gatherings in progress and not people out and about.
