NRP seeking suspect after vehicle stolen in Smithville.
Niagara Regional Police are asking for the public's help to identify a car theft suspect.
Around 8:00 a.m. on Boxing Day, a car was taken from a home in Smithville near Cherry Avenue and Jane Street.
A woman briefly left a running car unattended and unlocked.
Upon return, she noticed a male suspect get into the driver's seat, and was pushed away when she tried to confront him.
The woman sustained minor injuries.
The car was last seen heading westbound on Cherry Avenue towards Jane Street in Smithville.
The vehicle is described as a white 2018 Hyundai Tucson SUV with Ontario license plate number CENL567.
The car has snow tires and may have minor scrapes on the passenger front corner and front door.
Police say the suspect is associated with a gray four door BMW with black rims that had been in the area before the robbery occurred.
The suspect is described as a 5'9" male between 20 and 30 years old.
He has a slim build and short black hair.
He was wearing a black jacket and a cloth black facemask.
Detectives wish to speak to anyone who has more information about the suspect or the gray BMW.
