Police say suspect shot an officer
A police officer has been shot as the NRP deal with an active shooting in Welland this morning.
Officers were called a scene on Second Street, in the Plymouth Road and Lincoln Street area, to reports of a shooting, and as they got there, the officer was hit by gunfire.
He was taken to hospital with what's believed are non life-threatening injuries.
Police add the suspect has been contained inside a building, as they work to have him surrender.
The NRP have put all schools and the hospital on lockdown.
They're asking you to avoid the area of Lincoln Street to the north, King Street to the west, Third Street to the south, and Coventry to the east.
