The NRP is staying neutral, but wants the protests to end in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Protests over horse-drawn carriages in the the town have been going on for a few years.
Animal rights groups will hold demonstrations against the practice, and then counter demonstrations support the use of carriages.
Niagara Regional Police are stepping up and publicly asking both sides to stop.
They released a statement on Friday afternoon, asking the two side to enter meaningful discussions to bring an end to the issue.
Police don't want the situation to continue or escalate.
They will continue to stay neutral on the issue and maintain public peace and safety.
