About $10,500 in cash and gift cards donated as part of Metro Inc.'s 'Out of Reach' Christmas collection program.
Port Cares has received over $10,000 from Food Basics in Port Colborne.
The funds were a combination of cash donations from the community over the Christmas season and gift cards from Metro Inc.
Metro's "Out of Reach" collection ran from the beginning of December through to Christmas Eve, and allowed customers to donate at the till, with Port Cares receiving all proceeds.
"This is such an incredible donation from Food Basics that will truly help us help so many," said Christine Clark Lafleur, Executive Director of Port Cares. "We couldn’t do the good things we do in this neighbourhood without the outstanding support of companies and citizens like this."
Over $6,500 was collected in cash, and Metro also donated $3,900 worth of grocery gift cards.
Port Cares says the number of people coming to their Reach Out Centre has skyrocketed by over 30 percent since the start of the pandemic.
Right now, the centre is providing food to 1,700 local low-income residents, over 600 of which are children.
