Port Colborne Wetland Built Up

City website

The city and federal government investing money in joint venture, in part to prevent flooding

City of Port Colborne and federal government working to build up and preserve wetland area.

A combined $140,000 investment will build roughly over 6,000 square metre of wetland, and 450 metres of gravel walking paths at Centennial Park.

The city says wetlands act as a natural sponge, soaking up rain, snow, and protecting surrounding area from flooding.

There will also be tree and shrub planting, and with significant housing development expected, natural infrastructure protects current and new communities.

The city is putting up over $90,000, the rest from the federal government.
