Pride Niagara has list of events to celebrate the month
Today is the beginning of Pride Month, a month to raise awareness of current issues facing the 2SLGBTQ+ community and to celebrate their accomplishments.
The month is held in June in memory of the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village in 1969 when a raid at the Stonewall Inn prompted a series of demonstrations by members of the gay community who demanded the establishment of places where they could be open about their sexuality.
Yesterday, following the Pride flag raising at St. Catharines City Hall, Mayor Walter Sendzik tweeted the month is “ a celebration of inclusivity, community & supporters.”
Pride Niagara will mark the month with a series of events.
