Premier Doug Ford says the province is taking steps to fix Ontario's 'broken' bail system
Ontario says its taking action to strengthen the bail system.
An investment of $112 million is being made to support new technology, expand the OPP ROPE Squad and create violent crime bail teams.
The funds will also give more resources to prosecutors who conduct complex bail hearings.
Premier Doug Ford says the province is seeing a rise in violent crime, and action needs to be taken.
"We can’t have a justice system where violent criminals are arrested one day and back out on the streets the next. We’re doing our part to fix a broken bail system and look forward to working with our federal partners to finish the job."
Part of the funding will be used towards creating a provincewide bail monitoring system to help police monitor high risk offenders.
This comes after the country's premiers asked the federal government to amend the Criminal Code, in order to prevent violent and repeat offenders from being released back into communities.
