The province has reached a milestone in the COVID-19 vaccination effort.
As part of Operation Remote Immunity, all 31 fly-in northern remote communities as well as Moosonee have been offered the first doses of the vaccine.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says vaccinating Indigenous communities and residents is a key part of the province's vaccination plan, and gave credit to those responsible for this achievement.
"This important milestone could not have been achieved without the tremendous efforts of Indigenous leadership, community members, Ornge and frontline health care workers coming together to stop the spread of COVID-19 in these at-risk communities."
The mission was launched in order to protect First Nations elder care homes, who face a higher risk of the virus.
The plan was developed with the assistance of Nishnawbe Aski Nation, in order to ensure the engagement of Indigenous leaders.
Operation Remote Immunity commenced on February 1st, with the goal of completing its mission by the end of April.
