A stamp of approval on the Niagara Region's Climate Change Action Plan.
Council has approved the plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its operations, achieving net-zero corporate emissions by 2050.
The short term goal is to reduce emissions by 17.9% by 2028, by targeting emission sources such as buildings, water and fleet, through upgrades, low/no cost energy efficiency projects, and developing key internal policies.
The region adds the plan is to lower operational costs, and reduce exposure to rising energy tariffs and global market volatility.
