The average homeowner in St. Catharines will pay an additional $51 on their water bill this year.
City Council has approved a water and wastewater budget for 2020.
They're setting aside $9.3-million for infrastructure investments.
It works out to $6-million for watermain replacement and $3.3-million for sanitary sewer infrastructure replacement.
City Treasurer Kristine Douglas says the budget will benefit the Garden City in the long run.
"We’re moving forward on investments to our infrastructure as indicated in the City’s 10-year Water and Wastewater Financial Plan approved by Council in 2019, not only to ensure safe affordable delivery, but also reasonable rate increases for our system users."
She says St. Catharines has the second lowest water and wastewater rates in the Niagara Region.
