St. Catharines city council is keeping the pressure on the federal government to review the transfer of killer Paul Bernardo to a medium security prison.
It unanimously passed a motion by Councillor Robin McPherson Monday night, calling for legislative changes to the parole system, and to look at guidelines surrounding the movement of dangerous offenders and psychopaths, who have not shown remorse for crimes committed, to a medium security prison.
The motion referenced French and Mahaffy lawyer Tim Danson, who noted the parole board twice observed no remorse from the inmate for his crimes, 30 years after incarceration.
The motion also mentions the privacy of the offender was put ahead of victims, their families and the public.
Councillor McPherson's motion didn't mention the killer's name but referred to him as "the inmate".
The inmate was in maximum security prison for the murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy in the 1990s.
