St. Catharines Fire Services are reminding residents to practice safe cooking protocols after a weekend blaze.
On Sunday afternoon, crews were called to the scene of a fire on Louth Street.
By the time emergency personnel arrived, smoke had completely filled the home and an attached apartment.
The resident of the home was taken to hospital for a laceration and smoke inhalation.
Further investigation determined that there were no smoke or carbon monoxide alarms in the home.
The owner of the home reportedly fell asleep while cooking and learned of the fire after being woken up by a neighbour.
You are being reminded to not leave cooking unattended, as well as not leave rags, plastic utensils or paper towels near hot surfaces.
