Ontario government choosing these centres over drug injection sites, saying needles are left in neighbourhoods

It is officially open, the HART hub in St. Catharines on Queenston Street.

The Ontario government issuing a statement today indicating the Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment centre, that replaces drug injection sites, helps people without a home, mental health and drug problems.

Gateway Residential and Community Support Services is leading this, providing addiction services, primary care, peer support, food, clothing, and supportive housing.

The government adds while HART hubs focus on treatment and recovery, it does not offer supervised drug injection or needle exchange, keeping communities safe.

The HART hubs are also adding close to 900 supportive housing units province-wide.

It's part of a $550-million investment of 28 centres province-wide, providing primary care, mental health services, addictions care and employment support.
