The town says it means no longer sending people out of town to train, less costly
A Thorold city councillor is calling it a good news story.
Henry D'Angela is applauding the installation of a $2.1-million 4-storey fire fighter training tower at station #4.
He says right now fire fighters are sent outside the city which is more costly. "We have a large volunteer group in our community, and this training facility is going to give other opportunities of training that are more comprehensive than what's available in their current training outside our community."
The City of St. Catharines just opened a new fire fighter training centre in March.
Councillor D' Angela expressed another piece of the deal he likes. "It's not going to be hitting our tax base, it's coming from growth related, our development charges. So, this is one aspect of the growth that's providing the equipment that's required to provide the training for our full and part time fire fighters."
The fire chief added they can offer it to other municipalities to train at.
