Raising funds to help the homeless

Today is Raising the Roof's annual Toque Tuesday event, a day to raise money and awareness in support of long-term solutions to homelessness.

Because of the pandemic, the traditional pancake breakfast will be replaced by a province wide telethon to be held live on Youtube.

Leslie Bellingham, Raising the Roof's Director of Partnerships says the telethon will begin at 10 am  and continue throughout the day featuring interviews with leading voices in the movement to end homelessness, features on our partners and projects, musical acts, and prominent Canadians.

The organization is also selling merchandize including toques and masks on both its website and at participating Home Depot stores.

Bellingham says money raised goes to a program called Reside, where those with barriers to employment are hired and trained to renovate vacant properties.

Money also goes to local organizations including the Hope Centre in Welland and Community Care of St Catharines and Thorold.
