John Tory submitted his resignation last night after passing the budget
It's official.... Toronto Mayor John Tory is resigning, his final day being tomorrow.
Days after confessing to an affair with a staff member, he submitted his formal resignation shortly after the city budget was approved last night.
He faced several calls to stay in office despite the controversy.
Premier Doug Ford was one of his defenders, saying the mayor was up at 5am, and the two of them would talk late at night.
The budget process yesterday at city hall had some hiccups, with demonstrators disrupting at times and causing delays during the meeting.
Tory defended the budget during challenging times, amid controversies such as a hike to the police budget, cuts to transit service and a growing infrastructure backlog.
