A rise in viral illnesses in children prompting concern for boards of health
There's a push to bring back mask mandates in parts of Ontario.
Toronto's board of health has asked the city's top doctor to consider this amid a surge in viral illnesses that are sending children to hospital at alarming rates.
That comes one day after an Ottawa children's hospital urged indoor masking as the flu, COVID-19 and a childhood virus circulate.
A request has been made to Toronto's top doctor, Eileen de Villa, to urgently consider masks starting with schools.
She says for now they are following provincial guidelines, but the city could change course.
