Toronto's deputy mayor says city staff need more time to prepare for byelection

Toronto's deputy mayor says she has no plans to fast track the path to a mayoral byelection.

Jennifer McKelvie says while she wants a byelection as soon as possible, city staff need adequate time to prepare.

McKelvie has taken over some of the mayor's powers after John Tory stepped down last week.

Council's next meeting is scheduled for March 29th, and if a bylaw is passed to start the process, a byelection could be held in June or July.
