City of Welland says this is to replace trees lost to the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive species
More trees are being planted in Welland, to replace those lost by the Emerald Ash Borer infestation.
The city has received over $14,000 from the Niagara Community Foundation to plant them along the Kingsway in Dain City.
This is the 2nd consecutive year the Foundation has supported this, last year 70 were planted on city owned property along the Kingsway, with another 70 planted last month.
The City of Welland says this aligns with its Strategic Plan priority of Environment Stewardship, to protect ecosystems, improve air and water quality, and expand how much land is taken up by trees.
