Two cops in shocking shooting incident no longer facing charges
An Ontario court has stayed the charges against a Niagara cop in what has been called a blue on blue shooting.
The trial for Constable Nathan Parker who was accused of assaulting a superior officer in November of 2018 has come to an end.
Parker was accused of assaulting a superior officer in November of 2018 during a traffic reconstruction investigation in Fonthill.
During the ensuing melee, Parker was shot multiple times by Detective Sgt. Shane Donovan.
The CBC reporting Justice Anthony Leitch agreed to Crown attorney Jason Nicol's request for a stay after a provincial police forensic examination found Donovan may have lied while testifying about accessing evidence.
In a statement read by Nicol he emphasized "It is the Crown's conclusion that the prospect of conviction is now tenuous and that this prosecution is no longer in the public interest."
Charges against Donovan were dropped by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
