A $25-million investment to reopen an abandoned, century old tunnel in Niagara Falls is underway, leading to better viewing of the falls.
Niagara Parks is investing its own earned revenue into the tunnel, leading to a new, year-round viewing platform.
The plan includes rebuilding the existing lower observation platform, that opened in 1951, and was in the Marilyn Monroe movie "Niagara", from 1953.
The plan is to open the tunnel network next summer, including the original built in 1903, that closed in the 2nd World War.
The new observation platform, built in 1951, scheduled to open the following summer in 2028.
The park's plan ties in with Ontario's Destination Niagara Strategy, meant to double annual tourism visitation, raise the global profile, and attract more private investment.
