City councillors will be talking water rates at tonight's meeting.
Staff will present this year's water and wastewater budget which includes a proposed 1.85 percent increase to the average ratepayer (at annual
consumption levels of 170 cubic metres).
That works out to just over $16 more a year.
Councillor Karrie Porter will also be proposing that staff be directed to study whether the city should implement stormwater fees as a way to manage runoff into Lake Ontario.
Porter's motion noting, " stormwater contributes to substantial water pollution in Ontario Lakes and waterways, resulting in damaged fish habitat, increased algae blooms, and impacting drinking water sources and beach closures."
