Welland Building More Rental Homes

City council approved a plan to build on city owned lands, partnering with other groups Bethlehem Housing and Community Land Trust of Niagara

Construction gets underway in about a year on more rental homes in Welland.

City council has approved 83 homes on city owned lands north of Broadway, a partnership between Bethlehem Housing and the Community Land Trust of Niagara.

The city's director of planning Grant Munday says this will help individuals and families struggling to find a place to live in today's market.

Through a long-term lease, Bethlehem will build 40 units with a ground-floor community hub, and on the west side, Community Land Trust will buy city land to build more homes.

To further advance this, the city says it has approved over $400,000 in incentives through its' Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan.
