City offering grants to residents experiencing sewer backups from storm events.
Welland property owners who experience sewer backups from storms may get some help from the City.
Council has passed a motion to adopt a compassionate grant policy for sewer backup.
Property owners can apply for a grant of up to $3,000 if they can prove they had two or more backups as a result of significant rainfall.
The first must have happened since January 1st, 2017, and the second after July 21st, 2021.
The home must be insured and have been owned by the same person(s) during both backups, and claims must have been submitted within five months of the second event.
If the owner doesn't have coverage, they must have proof showing the insurance was denied.
