Environment Canada says Niagara has seen temperatures in the double digits on the plus side
Don't expect the Niagara region to see much of a white Christmas this year.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Phillips reminds us of the southerly air we've experienced so far this season, although he's certainly not, in his words, cancelling winter.
"For example, in the Niagara area, it used to be about 68% of the Christmases used to be white, roughly 30 to 50 years ago... now I'd put the number around 55%," he says.
The meteorologist adds the Niagara region typically gets as much rain as snow in December, even though Buffalo got hammered last month, and Niagara to an extent as well. "In your area, we've seen temperatures this month that have been double digit temperatures warmer, 10 degrees, we've seen all melting days, not freezing days."
He adds it's been extremely cold out west, but not in Niagara.
Meanwhile, winter is making sure Canada's east coast isn't forgetting the time of the year. Environment Canada says the wind will blow up to 80kms an hour starting tonight, lasting to Wednesday, and drop up to 20cms of wet snow.
