Athletes from 91 countries attend Opening Ceremonies.
The 2022 Olympic Winter Games have started.
Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the games open today during the opening ceremony.
Canada's contingent was led by flag bearers Charles Hamelin, who is a five-time Olympic medalist, and Marie-Philip Poulin, who is captain of the Canadian women's hockey team.
Meanwhile, pairs skater Kirsten Moore-Towers, who hails from St. Catharines, finished fifth in the short program with partner Michael Marinaro, and ice dancing pair Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier finished fourth in their program.
Canada currently ranks sixth out of ten nations competing in figure skating, but only the top five teams advance past the short programs.
Canada has a chance to advance when figure skater Madeline Schizas makes her Olympic debut on Sunday.
