Buffalo based advertiser wants to remind Canadians we are welcome to cross the bridge, expects to have billboard up for another month
A Buffalo-based advertiser is hoping a billboard in Toronto will remind Canadians we are welcome to cross the border, despite what's happening in Washington.
President of Visit Buffalo/Niagara Patrick Kaler says the billboard reads BuffaloLovesCanada.com, but recognizing Canadians will make the move when ready.
He adds it's up for another month, but with possible changes to come. "When might sentiment be changing, and when will the right time be for us to go in with more of a visitation type message? But, that's not on our radar at this point."
He understands Canadians feelings about 51st state rhetoric.
He's also been watching the impact of the sign, on the QEW nearing Kipling. "April 19th to May 31st, and then June 1st to July 13th, we had a 78% increase in Canadian visitation to our website. And, most of that came after the billboard went up."
He says it was put in Toronto instead of Niagara since the population is much bigger.
