TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays are removing Roberto Alomar from the Level of Excellence and severing all ties with the Hall of Fame second baseman.
Alomar had been working with the Blue Jays as special assistant to the organization for years. The Blue Jays are severing ties with the former All Star because of a sexual misconduct investigation from 2014.
Alomar put out an official statement on twitter.
"I am disappointed, surprised, and upset with today's news. With the current social climate, I understand why Major League Baseball has taken the position they have. My hope is that this allegation can be heard in a venue that will allow me to address the accusation directly. I will continue to spend my time helping kids pursue their baseball dreams."
Alomar will not be making further comment at this time.
