The Niagara health group is staying open more until September
A Niagara based community health group is doing what it can to help while Niagara Health sorts through staffing issues, such as at the urgent care centres.
Executive Director of Bridges Community Health Taralea McLean says Fort Erie and Port Colborne clinics are taking patients, many who expressed appreciation for this being done.
That's anyone with non-emergency issues, such as colds, rashes or poison ivy. "What we cannot do is we don't have any diagnostic imaging in our clinic, so we can't do x-rays, and we don't hook people up to an E-C-G machine."
She says they were asked by their provincial funder, Ontario Health West, to do this, and will until September.
She says they couldn't do it without Niagara Medical Group, Portage Medical and Welland McMaster Health teams. "If we had to do that, then yes, it would've affected our ability to see our own patients the way we normally do, but with the support of the family health teams, we have been able to continue running our regular primary care clinics."
She says you don't need an appointment to go.
