The CBC, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and News Media Canada say Meta is abusing its position
Several organizations are asking the Competition Bureau to stop Meta from blocking Canadian news content on it's social media platforms.
Starting today, Canadians can no longer see or post domestic news on Instagram or Facebook.
The CBC, News Media Canada and the Canadian Association of Broadcasters say the company is abusing it's position.
They also say this will prevent the country's news organizations from accessing the advertising market and reduce their visibility on Facebook and Instagram.
Meta is blocking news on its sites in Canada in response to the Online News Act, which requires Google and Meta to pay publishers for content posted to their platforms.
