New challenge launched in hopes of inspiring people to help save lives.
Canadian Blood Services is asking you to do your part to help save lives this holiday season.
The organization has launched the Give 3 in 2023 campaign, which encourages people to support patients in 3 different ways.
You can help many different ways, including giving blood, plasma or platelets, donating money, registering to be an organ and tissue donor or joining the stem cell registry.
Community Development Tammy Maroudas says blood donations are especially needed right now.
"People can't donate when they're not well. So, it's no secret that there are many people unwell right now, with cold, flu, COVID and other viruses. That's why we need more people across Niagara, especially new donors, to become regular donors."
She also says there is a particular need for O- blood at the moment.
"Niagara residents who know that they're O-, they are the true universal donors. They're the ones that the blood type is used for emergency situations...but all blood donors are asked to join the challenge."
Maroudas notes you can also help the efforts by encouraging others to take part, either by posting about your donation on social media or bringing a friend with you when you donate blood.
