Global Affairs Canada says wildfires are rampant throughout the region
If you're planning to visit Maui, you might want to change your plans.
Due to wildfires, Global Affairs Canada has issued an advisory against non-essential travel to the Hawaiian island.
Authorities say the fires, which started on Tuesday, have claimed 36 lives so far.
That number is expected to rise, as flames, obstructions and blocked roads have made some parts of the island unreachable.
Global Affairs Canada says it's not aware of any Canadians being killed or injured due to the fires.
The fires have forced evacuations in some areas including, Lahaina, which is popular with tourists.
According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Dora shares some of the blame for strong winds, which have knocked out power and forced firefighting helicopters to the ground.
