Dodge Journey stolen after it was left running at a variety store
Officers were called to a St. Catharines convenience store on Pelham Road near Kent Street last night before 9:00 after a Dodge Journey was taken from the parking lot while the owner ran into the store.
About a half hour later, the vehicle was found a short distance away at a housing complex on Rykert Street.
A Thorold man, identified as Brandon Thomas, who was inside one of the units, surrendered to police.
A second suspect however barricaded himself inside the home,
Officers than determined there was a risk weapons were in the residence and the Emergency Task Unit and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.
The second suspect was finally taken into custody just before 2:00 this morning.
45 year old Arkadiusz Bukinski of no fixed address is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Thomas is facing a single charge of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
