Carbon Tax Isn't Gone: Davies

The newly elected Conservative ran due to economic policies

The new MP for Niagara South believes Canadians have given Prime Minister Mark Carney a chance due to his resume.

Fred Davies, a 40-year businessman in Niagara, says he ran after watching federal economic policies such as high spending, impacting inflation and housing problems.

He says Conservatives will keep fighting for economic security.  "And that means killing the carbon tax, not modifying it in any way, as Mr. Carney said.  I've read his book, and that book is all about carbon taxes.  And, now he's talking a shadow carbon tax, which means you will pay more, you just won't see it on your bills."

He adds they'll keep fighting for Canadian energy exports globally, to reduce reliance on the United States.

He also believes continually pressing pocketbook issues helped him to win on Monday, pointing to younger voters who were having trouble financially, such as buying a home.  "And then there's the boomers, and my generation, that tended to always vote Conservative, who were going to the Liberals.  I think that was because their houses were paid off, they had money in the bank, they didn't have the money concerns that younger people have.... so, the script was somewhat flipped."
