It's for vehicles left longer than 24 hours
A $100 penalty will be imposed on anyone leaving a vehicle parked at Lakeside Park parking lot in St. Catharines for longer than 24 hours.
City council heard from area businesses who complained of some vehicles left for many days.
Deputy Mayor Bill Phillips responded to concerns for anyone who might be drinking the previous night. "If you have too much to drink at 9 tonight, you have to get rid of your car by 9 tomorrow night... you should be sober by then."
The penalty will not apply to those having a Port Dalhousie Business Permit.
City Treasurer Kristine Douglas also answered Councillor Kevin Townsend's question about someone leaving a car overnight due to drinking. "That is part of the reason why staff have recommended the 24 hour restriction, and it would be after the 24 hours when we would start enforcing."
A city report indicates the parking lot is not intended for long term use.
