First time offenders could be fined $500, and $1,000 fine issued for subsequent violations
The City of Welland is reminding residents not to use motorized vehicles on trails and public parks.
Authorities say using ATVs and E-bikes can damage the natural state of the areas and be dangerous to people using them on foot.
"Use of motorized vehicles in our parks and on our trails creates a safety risk for everyone," said Rob Axiak, director of community services. "Our parks and trails are critical pieces of social infrastructure, and motorized vehicles cause damage to the landscape. The City will not tolerate the sense of unease motorized vehicles create on trails for the rest of the community."
Anyone caught violating the bylaw could be fined $500 for the first offence, and $1,000 for subsequent offences.
The bylaw applies to vehicles like motorcycles, cars, motor-assisted bicycles, trail bikes, dune buggies, scooters, mini-bikes, trailers, go-carts, farm tractors, traction engines, snow mobiles and ATVs.
The City says signage about the improper use of parks and trails can be found on-site, and anyone with concerns can get in touch with Niagara Regional Police.
