Mona Patel is concerned with how many hotels, motels are changing to residential units
The changing use of Lundy's Lane has moved a Niagara Falls city councillor to act.
Mona Patel wants to have a community meeting of residents, businesses and city staff to discuss what she says is how many hotels and motels are being changed to long-term bachelor apartments. "This shift is changing the landscape of the area, not just in terms of housing, but its economy, its identity, and its future. The changes affect a wide range of people, residents, local businesses, service providers, and tourism sector."
Her council colleagues unanimously approved the idea, but has also approved changing some motels into residential units in recent meetings.
Patel hopes to have this sometime in the near future. "To discuss the impact, share ideas, and shape a path forward together. We are looking at the key issues like zoning, affordable housing, the local economy, and the historic character of the area."
She adds most importantly the community is involved in the discussions, as decisions can't be made for it.
