Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati says he plans to fight homelessness in the city.
The mayor of Niagara Falls says two of his biggest priorities in his fourth term will be homelessness and the District airport.
Jim Diodati tells us this region is the largest population in Canada that doesn't have regular daily scheduled flights.
"There is a big opportunity. Two million people every year pass us and go to the Buffalo airport, and I think that airport needs to be commercialized where you can get on a plane and fly to Montreal or Florida, or anywhere you want to fly."
Another main focus for Diodati will be new housing developments in the downtown area.
"We need to build a lot more places to live downtown, and we know we've got an issue of affordability and homelessness. Certainly things that have come about and become more prevalent since COVID."
Diodati notes while housing prices are falling, it's not enough to help the homeless.
Other top priorities for Diodati heading into his fourth term include the University of Niagara Falls and the building of the South Niagara hospital.
