Doug Ford Addresses "Scumbag" Offender

Mayor Frank Campion says he's received a letter from the Premier about pressing for criminal justice change, after 3-year old girl was sexually assaulted

The Mayor of Welland has received a response from Premier Doug Ford about pressing the federal government for changes to the justice system.

Frank Campion says the Ontario government is committed to standing with the city, as it grieves the tragic, horrid act that has shaken our collective sense of safety.

In responding to a 3-year old girl being sexually assaulted by a repeat offender, Doug Ford writes "This scumbag deserves to rot in prison for the rest of their life."

In the letter, the premier reminds the mayor that criminal law is a federal responsibility, and they must keep pressing together.

The letter also indicates the province is doing everything it can to keep our streets safe.

The mayor says he is told the young victim is recovering, and he cannot overstate the relief of sharing those words.

The mayor also says we owe this little girl proof that we did not stand idly by.

Mayor Campion adds he is profoundly proud of Welland, for channeling anger and fear into meaningful action with peaceful protests, and united demands to government.
