Extension Granted for Subdivision Construction

A 3-year construction extension has been granted by the City of Welland for the Dain City East Subdivision.

It was approved based on evidence of progress, even though this would be another 3-year extension granted.

Councillor Bonnie Fokkens wants to ask CN Rail, which owns the land, about opening a second road.  "Still, 845 homes left to be built on this, it's massive, and it's really disrupting, it's not beneficial for the air quality for the people in the area."

Director of Planning Grant Munday explained trucks are moving dirt to reach buried methane.  "They've had to dig down to that methane, and remove that soil.  They removed some to different sites, to meet their grading, and then they're repacking that soil back into that excavation and have to drive over it every several inches."

Councillor Fokkens said no buildings permits have been issued this year.
