Parties subject to stipulations about prices, jobs and network investments
CANADA - The federal government has greenlit the merger between Rogers and Shaw, with conditions.
Federal Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says the government has secured commitments from Rogers and Videotron to bolster competition and keep prices down.
The wireless licenses of Freedom Mobile, which is owned by Shaw, will be transferred to Videotron.
The approval comes with several conditions, including the requirement that Videotron can't sell the wireless assets to anyone else for at least a decade.
The $26 billion deal also requires Rogers to create 3,000 deals in Western Canada, and offer new low cost plans for broadband and wireless networks.
