Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says Betty's Restaurant is not to blame.
He defended the Chippawa establishment in the Ontario Legislature yesterday.
It has received a lot of backlash after Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff shared photos of several people, including himself, not wearing masks during a private event there over the weekend.
Oosterhoff has since taken the photos down and has issued an apology.
Gates says the restaurant owner, Joe Miszk, is a friend of his and he is doing everything he can to keep the restaurant and his staff safe.
Gates also read a statement from Miszk's wife Bernadette, which stated that her husband and his staff members have been the target of cruel, nasty and threating comments over the past couple of days.
Gates says Betty's Restaurant should not be held accountable for Oosterhoff's poor choices and the owner should have never been put in this position.
"I know Joe and his staff try their best to enforce safety guidelines. Be kind, wear your mask and join me in supporting the staff and the owners of Betty's."
